If you’ve never had your long distance service unexpectedly “switched” to another carrier, consider yourself fortunate. Despite heated consumer complaints to governing bodies, this type of “slamming” is all too common in the long distance business.
One way to stop this type of activity is with a “PIC freeze” order — which legally prevents long distance carriers from “picking” an account that is frozen with a specified carrier. Your local phone service provider (Darien Telephone Company) will be happy to freeze your long distance account. Simply call the Darien Telephone Company office and request a PIC freeze on your line(s), then the only way another carrier can “pick” your account(s) is with your written permission.
