The Blessing of the Fleet Festival in historic Darien will be held April 8-10, 2016. The weekend kicks off Friday at 5pm with arts and crafts and food including sweet Georgia shrimp. The Waterfront Park stage comes alive from 6 – 10pm with live music (TBA).
Saturday events include a 5K Darien River run/walk at 8am, a street parade with U.S. military and Scottish color guards at 10am, continuous live entertainment, a kids’ zone and classic car show at 11am. Live musical performances (TBA) on Saturday will also take center stage from 6 – 10pm. A fireworks display is held at dusk. Art in the Park, a juried fine art show, is held in Vernon Square with entertainment on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm along with paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry and textiles.
On Sunday, join us for the main event: The Shrimp Boat Marine Parade which is followed by the blessing ceremony overseen by representatives of the Darien-McIntosh Ministerial Association. An awards ceremony will follow.
Admission on Friday and Saturday is $5/13 and up and free/12 and under with paying adult. There is no admission charge on Sunday.
